Patois is a coming-of-age story following a young girl struggling to make space for herself between the traditions of her mother’s home country and her own. The film uses relationships with the girls and women in her life to explore the challenges accepting her dual-cultural experience, and through one act of kindness, is able to capture a girl transitioning into womanhood in a way that both acknowledges and transcends the notion of cultural differences.
